Who should attend: All Math Educators Grades 6-8, including Teachers, Special Education Teachers, and Coaches in the grade levels.

This one-day institute and one-day Teaching Learning Community (TLC) is designed to facilitate student understanding of mathematical relationships and big ideas that are typically experienced by students as abstract, nonsensical, and complex. When used appropriately, visuals and technology help move students beyond mindless computing. Carefully designed visuals or technology apps help students see underlying structures and internalize critical mathematical ideas that are essential to their educational success as they progress through high school and into college mathematics.
The follow-up TLC provides participants an opportunity to spend time in a real classroom to enact the planning, co-taught implementation, and reflection of the use of visual tools in secondary classrooms.
