Why do seemingly good math students often hit a wall when they take algebra? They have not understood the underlying structure of number and without that they will not have access to algebra. In this institute, we will explore instructional strategies and math tasks that address this gap in understanding. Together we will examine ways of bridging arithmetic and algebra because the seamless integration of the two results in students who are mathematically proficient. We can prepare students for higher levels of mathematics while at the same time bridging gaps. This workshop will show you how.
