Dr. Charlene Marchese
K-8 Mathematics
Dr. Charlene Marchese has worked in Mathematics Education for over thirty years. Her passion is to excite teachers to uncover the beauty of mathematics and in turn watch them bring their love of mathematics to their students. Charlene worked for fourteen years as the Supervisor of Mathematics (PK-8th grade) in New Jersey and as a Regional Instructional Supervisor in Mathematics, focusing on middle school, for Region 9 in New York City. Prior to entering supervision positions she was a mathematics coach for middle schools in District 2 in NYC, and a middle school mathematics teacher in New Jersey. Currently, Charlene is working with school districts across the country on Math for All, a grant funded project with Bank Street College and Education Development Center, which engages teachers and coaches on pedagogical strategies to meet the needs of all students in mathematics. She is also currently an adjunct professor at Bank Street College of Education.
Charlene earned her doctorate from Rutgers University in Elementary Education, Specializing in Mathematics Education. Her dissertation research focused on how middle school students develop algebraic understandings through representations. Charlene holds a Master’s Degree from Bank Street College in Mathematics Leadership, and completed her undergraduate degree at Rutgers University. Charlene is co-author of Fostering professional growth; A three-pronged approach published in NCTM’s Annual Perspectives in Mathematics Education (April 2017). She has facilitated professional development in mathematics education nationally and internationally and has presented at local and national mathematics education conferences.
