Join How can we ensure that every student in our classroom can meaningfully engage with math lessons? In this workshop, we’ll dive into actionable strategies for ensuring equitable access to math learning, all without resorting to separate tasks or content for different students.
Key topics will include:
- Accessibility strategies that empower all students to actively participate in math lessons.
- The concept of productive struggle—what it looks like, why it’s essential, and how to help students navigate from unproductive to productive struggle.
- Practical examples of how these strategies come to life in a real math lesson.
Participants will leave with actionable tools to design lessons that foster access and engagement for every learner, creating a classroom culture where all students can thrive as mathematical thinkers.
Who Should Attend: K-5 math teachers committed to equity and inclusion in student learning.
The content of this workshop supports all five of the NYCPS Mathematics Shifts, especially:
• Shift 2: Shared, low-floor, high-ceiling tasks
• Shift 4: Providing asset-based support
